Frequently Asked Questions
about Hair Extensions

EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about HAIR EXTENSIONS is also in this video

Where does the hair come from?

The hair is raw hair that comes from donors from all over the world. Mostly from Europe and India. The hair is 100% real human hair, and it is cruelty-free. This hair has to be virgin hair (neither colored nor chemically treated) and it can’t be damaged in any way. After it has been collected, the raw hair is hand-selected and hand-sorted, hair by hair, in an elaborate and labor-intensive process. This process of hand-selection takes about 10 days for an average hair extension.

What is Remi Hair?

Remi hair (sometimes spelled Remy) means that the cuticle layer for the hair extension is still intact. The hair has been collected from donors (women with long hair) and is processed into extensions with all the cuticles facing in the same direction. This is the best type of hair.

Do I Have to Wait for Hair Extensions?

After the consultation I will select the right type of hair, the length and the colour that suits your hair and style. Afterwards, the hair must be ordered and it takes 1-3 days until I receive it.

An upfront 50% deposit is required before ordering the hair.

How Long Does the Application of the Strands Take?

This will depend on the type of hair extensions we choose. A full head of hot fusion hair extensions or cold fusion hair extensions which requires between 100-150 pieces, can take between 2-4 hours. Tape-in hair extensions can take between 1-2 hours. If you would like a partial head of hair extensions, for example bangs only, then the process is even faster. First and foremost the time needed depends on the number of strands that needs to be applied. The next deciding factor in terms of time is the system used. Please keep in mind that the time for washing and drying, as well as for possible coloring and cutting has not yet been considered here.

How Much Do Hair Extensions Cost?

I cannot give you a universally valid answer to this question for several reasons:
First off it is important to know what hairstyle you would like, and what your own hair looks like. With this information I can decide on how many strands, what length, what structure and what hair quality is to be used for your individual desired hairstyle.
Prices also vary depending on the system that is used. Clip-in hair extensions are the most affordable. Tape-in extensions are second most affordable. Hot and Cold Fusions are a little pricier due to the time it takes to install them.
A haircut for blending might be required as well, which will affect the price.

Can I bring my own hair extensions for you to apply on my hair?

Yes, you can. However, there will be no warranty or guarantee if the hair will slide off, melt, or tangle up, since I don’t know where the hair came from and its quality.

Can I become a Hair Extensions Technician, and do this on my own?

Yes, you can become a certified Hair Extensions Technician by taking the right courses, with a reputable academy that teaches the right material and provided the right equipment. The Hair Healer Academy offers such courses and you can read more about the hair extensions course HERE

Do Hair Extensions Look Natural? Are They Visible?

Hair extensions look completely natural and are not noticeable to people who don’t know that you are wearing them (if they are done properly). I will match the hair extension strands to your own hair’s structure and color, and correct placement of the strands ensures a perfect result.
If in my opinion your hair will not allow the final look to look natural, I will let you know. An example is if you have a short haircut and you would like to have very long hair extensions (22″). In this case it will probably not be possible to create a flowing transition between your own hair and the hair extensions. I will bring this to your attention and explain to you what we can do instead, and what the result will look like.
With the huge range of colours you will find the perfect strand for any colour type. If you are looking for a specific colour that is not in my colour ring, I will custom make it for you.

Will I Feel the Hair Extensions?

All my hair extension bonds are very small and therefore hardly noticeable.

You may feel them at your scalp in the first week, but as the hair starts to grow, you will not feel them as much. Most women who got the Hot Fusion and Cold Fusion extensions got used to them within a week.

How are the strands removed?

I will use a special Removal Solution to take out the Fusion and Tape extensions. This is a special solution, which allows for extra gentle removal.
The Removal Solution is applied to the bonding and penetrates the bonding material. The material quickly softens and you can simply slide the strands out. Your own hair and the extensions are not damaged in any way by the Removal Solution.

The Cold Fusions extensions do not require a removal solution since there is no “glue” (bonding material) involved, but only metal beads. These are simply removed with special clamps. And no damage is done your hair.
I recommend a Tidy-Up Cut every four to six weeks in order to ensure especially quick and easy removal. During this service your own hair, which has naturally shed but is stuck in the bonding, is cut at the top in order to avoid matting.

How Long Do Hair Extensions Last?

The wearing period of hair extensions will depend on your individual hair growth, the structure and volume of your own hair and your desired hairstyle.
The bonding slowly moves away from your scalp along with your natural hair growth. Therefore the bonding will be more visible after about four to six months, and should be removed then. If you choose to keep the extensions in your hair any longer than that, you are taking a risk, since the hair can get very tangled.

Can the Hair Be Re-Used?

If you choose the Cold Fusion method or the Tape-ins, the hair can be reused again after removal, and the charge will be per hour of work. You will not pay for the hair again.
Hot Fusion hair extensions cannot be reused.

Do I Have Any Limitations When Wearing Hair Extensions?

You don’t have to limit your lifestyle in any way. Thanks to the secure bonding and the excellent quality of the hair extensions you can pursue all your hobbies and activities as usual.
Long hair always requires more care than short hair, and this is true for these hair extensions as well. If for example you do vigorous exercise on a regular basis and thus have to wash your hair more often, then you have to take especially good care of your hair extensions in order to enjoy the quality for a long time. You can do simple things like, using a good quality shampoo, conditioner and leave-in spray before brushing. Brush the extensions only with a special Loop Brush.

Are Hair Extensions Hard to Take Care Of?

You need to take care of your hair extensions as you would of your own long hair.
I offer a special hair care line, which is specially formulated to meet the needs of human hair extensions. The hair extensions are not connected to your scalp and therefore not automatically supplied with natural conditioning substances. The products I offer target this natural deficiency and balance it. When used regularly your hair extensions will retain their beautiful shine, optimal elasticity and deep color.
I will make sure to recommend the right hair products for your specific hair type.

Can I Style And Color the Hair as Usual?

You can style your hair as usual using your blow dryer, flat iron or curling iron. The same is true for other processes such as perms, keratin treatments, or color. Having hair extensions does not mean that you are stuck with one particular hairstyle.

However, chemical processes like coloring, tinting or perming can drastically change the surface of the hair, thus stressing it. You should only let authorized extension specialists perform such services in order to get the most out of your hair extensions.

Brush your hair several times a day from roots to ends using the special Loop Brush in order to prevent tangles.
When blow drying be careful not to set the blow dryer too hot, and keep it at a distance of at least 20cm (8in). Extreme heat can damage or dry out your hair extensions.
Before bed: Tie your hair or put it in a braid before you go to sleep. This is how you avoid tangles in your hair extensions.

Do I Have to Meet Certain Requirements in Order to Get Hair Extensions?

With my hair extensions, reasonably full hair with a minimum length of 8-10cm (3-4in) is enough for the bonding to be invisible and for the extensions to naturally blend with your own hair.

Can I Get Hair Extensions with Heavy Hair Loss?

Since heavy hair loss is often caused by medication or hormonal imbalances, the hair loss has to be stopped before hair extensions can be applied. Otherwise I cannot guarantee the hold of the strands.

Are Hair Extensions Damaging to My Own Hair?

My hair extensions are very gentle and do not involve chemicals, which ensures that your own hair will not be damaged.
The various strand sizes make it possible to customize hair extensions for your individual hair type. Furthermore, your own hair is protected by the strands of the extensions, because the extensions enclose your own hair. I call this the “Shoulder-Effect”.
Shoulder-length hair usually gets split ends and breaks at the level where your hair touches your shoulders. Thanks to the enclosure with hair extensions your own hair can recover during the wearing period and split ends or breakage are prevented from occurring.
Regular follow-up service is a crucial requirement for the perfect condition of your hair extensions. This includes Check-Up Service, Tidy-Up Cuts etc. with the stylist who performed the service in the first place.
Specified hair care products for hair extensions can help reduce the damage of your extensions and your own hair dramatically.

Will Hair Extensions Make My Own Hair Fall Out?

The hair extensions I use help with the protection of your own hair. I am always careful that the pieces of your hair extensions are attached to the same amount of your own hair.
The different strand sizes help me customize and find the right strands for you. The only way you may experience hair loss is if your hair is over-strained because these guidelines were not followed.

You must remember that when coming back to remove the extensions, some of your own hair will come out as well, but this is hair that you lost regularly on a daily basis, which could not fall on the ground since it was attached to the hair extensions. We lose between 100-150 strands of hair every day, and that is very normal. Therefore you have nothing to worry about.
